The announcement below is a short memorial written by Sheila.
With deep sadness, I share news of the passing of our beloved friend and long time volunteer, Kathy Agresto.
Many of you knew her as the warm, welcoming presence who could always be found at Stephy’s Place on Tuesdays and Wednesdays. I often called her “the Mayor of Stephy’s Place” because she knew everyone, and everything that was going on. At 84, she remembered details that I couldn’t even hope to remember. She was a force!
Nine years ago, after the death of her husband Joe, she came through our doors heartbroken and searching for support. Through the healing she found from both group and therapy, she slowly began to rebuild her life. In true fashion, she then turned her pain into purpose and dedicated herself to helping others. Since then, she faithfully volunteered here at Stephy’s Place offering comfort, encouragement, and friendship to countless people navigating their own grief journeys.
Her story embodied everything Stephy’s Place stands for: hope, healing, connection, and the belief that even after profound loss, life can still hold meaning and purpose, while never forgetting her beloved husband, Joe.
For me personally and many of us at Stephy’s Place, her loss is immeasurable. She was like a mother to us, a trusted friend, and a constant source of support.
As we grieve together, let us remember the beautiful example she set: that even in the depths of loss, healing is possible, and that one person’s love and generosity can change countless lives.
She will be deeply missed and forever remembered.
Please keep her family and loved ones in your thoughts and prayers.
We will share information regarding services as it becomes available.
With a heavy heart,
Sheila
